Thousands of Fans Attend Florida Cup Bundesliga Exhibition

More than 4,000 witnessed Eintracht Frankfurt take on Hertha Berlin in an exciting kickoff to the sixth edition of the Florida Cup

St. Petersburg, Fla. – January 9, 2020 – The Florida Cup 2020 kicked off in thrilling fashion last night at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, as thousands of fans created an electric atmosphere for the special exhibition match between Bundesliga sides Eintracht Frankfurt and Hertha BSC of Berlin.

The special exhibition match was free to attend for fans, and thousands took advantage of the opportunity to watch two world-class clubs compete in their own backyard. The match ended 2-1 in favor of Hertha BSC following two goals from Alexander Esswein (71’, 78’ pen.). Scoring the lone goal for Frankfurt was former U.S. Men’s National Team star Timmy Chandler (73’).

FLORIDA CUP RESUMES IN ORLANDO JAN. 15

The action resumes on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 6 p.m. ET as Corinthians, current three-time champion of São Paulo and twice champion in the last four editions of Brasileirão, faces Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference Champions New York City FC. The same day, at 8.30 p.m. ET, there will be a clash between Palmeiras, the Brazilian champion in 2016 and 2018, and Atlético Nacional, the winningest Colombian champion and 2016 Copa Libertadores Champion. Both matches will be held at Exploria Stadium, home of the Orlando City SC and the Orlando Pride, in downtown Orlando.

On January 18, Exploria Stadium will host the Florida Cup 2020 finals. NYCFC faces Palmeiras at 2 p.m. ET, while Atlético Nacional plays against Corinthians at 5.30 p.m. ET. In the break between the two matches, one of the biggest singers in Brazil, the Bahian muse Ivete Sangalo, will be joined by Colombian superstar Manuel Turizo for a special extended performance for all in attendance.
